About Victorian Dance Academy (VDA)

I would like to welcome you to the Victorian Dance Academy website. We are a vibrant school offering classes in Jazz, Tap, Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theatre/ Song & Dance, Stretch, Strength & Technique, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Kinder dance program,  VCEDance, Boyzone (Hip Hop and Tap).

Our teaching staff are qualified and dedicated to the profession of teaching dance to students of all ages. Teachers have trained and worked professionally in their specialised dance style and pass on their passion for dance to the next generation of dancers at VDA.

We offer a safe dance environment with four fully equipped studios.

At VDA, we offer technique classes, competition classes, exam and concert work. Our younger students participate in our Shining Stars Showcase (Kinder – Primary dancers), and our older students perform in our Annual VDA Concert in November.

We pride ourselves on offering quality training in a friendly and caring environment. To dance for pleasure, as a hobby, to improve posture and coordination, to meet new friends, or to look ahead as a profession in teaching or performance. We encourage our students to reach the highest level possible and achieve their fullest potential to be the best dancer they can be.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary); Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement); Diploma of Arts in Dance (Teaching and Management).

Experience:

Kerrie has over 40 years of dance training in all styles of Dance including; Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Character. She has trained full-time under Laurel Martyn (OBE), Janet Barnard-Brown and Mark Laguerre and was awarded Outstanding Student of the Year when training full time.

Kerrie is a professional dancer/ choreographer. While training in full time dance and performing on stage, she was approached by Disney casting agents to audition for them. Kerrie went on to perform professionally for Disney Live and Walt Disney Special events both in Australia and overseas as leading characters of Cinderella, Ariel the Little Mermaid and many others. She has appeared in many theatre productions such as ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Crazy For You’, ‘Barnum’ and has choreographed musicals and theatrical productions for stage.

Kerrie has been teaching for the past 30 years and opened VDA in 1999. She has had much success with her school at competitions, exams and enabling students to further their careers making dance their profession whether as teachers, choreographers or performers. Students have gone on to further dance education at prestigious schools such as the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts), WAPPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) and other full-time performing arts courses.

Kerrie is a qualified Primary and Secondary teacher and has taught at leading Victorian schools such as Carey Grammar, Korowa AGS, St Catherine’s and also taught dance from Prep to VCE level for eight years as Head of Dance at Wesley College (Glen Waverley campus). Kerrie has been a guest adjudicator for dancing competitions in Auckland, New Zealand and has been a VCE Dance private provider for the past 28 years.
